Stamped & Decorative Concrete
Get the high-end look of pavers or natural stone at a fraction of the cost with decorative concrete.

The Appeal of Decorative Concrete
Decorative concrete lets you create custom looks for your driveways, patios, walkways, and pool decks without the high cost of premium materials. Through stamping, coloring, and texturing techniques, we can make concrete resemble brick, stone, slate, tile, or wood. The finished product looks expensive but costs significantly less than the materials it mimics.
Cost isn't the only advantage. Decorative concrete is actually more durable than many natural materials. Pavers can shift and settle, creating uneven surfaces and trip hazards. Individual pavers crack and need replacement. Weeds grow between pavers requiring regular maintenance. Stamped concrete eliminates these problems by providing a solid, continuous surface that won't separate or shift.
Maintenance is easier too. You're not dealing with dozens or hundreds of individual pieces that need attention. A stamped concrete surface gets swept, hosed off, and occasionally resealed. That's it. No replacing broken pavers, no re-leveling settled sections, no pulling weeds from joints. You spend more time enjoying your outdoor space and less time maintaining it.
The design flexibility gives you options that standard concrete can't match. You pick the pattern, color, and texture that fit your home's style. Want the look of European cobblestone? We can do that. Prefer natural slate? That works too. Traditional brick pattern? No problem. You're not limited to what nature provides or what manufacturers stock. We create the exact look you want.
Design Options and Techniques
Several techniques create decorative effects in concrete. Here's what's available and how each approach works.
Stamped Concrete
This is our most popular decorative option. After pouring concrete, we press pattern stamps into the surface while it's still workable. The stamps create texture and joints that mimic brick, stone, tile, or other materials. We have dozens of pattern options ranging from natural stone to geometric designs. The stamping process requires skill and timing because the concrete must be at exactly the right consistency.
Colored Concrete
Color adds another dimension to decorative concrete. We can integrate color throughout the concrete mix for uniform coloring, or apply color hardener to the surface for richer tones. Stains and dyes offer additional color options with varied, natural-looking results. Multiple colors can be combined to create depth and highlight patterns. The color options range from earth tones that blend with landscaping to bold colors that make a statement.
Exposed Aggregate
This technique reveals the stone aggregate within the concrete for a textured, natural appearance. After placing concrete, we apply a surface retarder then wash away the surface paste to expose the decorative stone. The result is a slip-resistant surface with visual interest from the various stone colors and sizes. Exposed aggregate works well for pool decks, patios, and driveways where you want traction and a casual look.
Textured Finishes
Even without stamping, we can create interesting textures in concrete. A broom finish provides traction with subtle lines. Trowel finishes create smooth, elegant surfaces. Salt finish produces a weathered, pitted texture. These simpler techniques cost less than stamping but still add character beyond standard concrete.
- Popular patterns: Ashlar slate, random stone, European cobblestone, running bond brick, herringbone brick, wood plank, seamless stone
- Common colors: Earth tones like tan, brown, and gray are most popular, but we can create virtually any color you want
- Best applications: Patios, driveways, walkways, pool decks, entries, courtyards
- Sealing: All decorative concrete needs sealing to protect the finish and enhance the appearance
How We Create Decorative Concrete
Creating beautiful decorative concrete requires experience and attention to detail. The window for applying stamps and colors is narrow, so everything must be planned and executed efficiently.
Site preparation follows the same process as standard concrete work. We excavate, grade for drainage, install base material, and build forms. The base work needs to be perfect because any settling or movement shows up more noticeably in decorative concrete. We take extra care with this phase on decorative projects.
If you want color throughout the concrete, we add color hardener to the mix. For surface coloring, we apply color hardener after pouring and initial finishing. The color gets worked into the surface through additional troweling. Timing is critical here because the concrete must be firm enough to work but still soft enough to accept color.
Stamping happens when the concrete reaches the right consistency. Too soft and the stamps sink too deep. Too firm and the stamps won't make clear impressions. Our crew monitors the concrete constantly and begins stamping at the perfect moment. We apply a release agent first so the stamps don't stick to the concrete. Then we carefully press stamps into the surface, moving systematically across the entire area. Each stamp placement must align properly with adjacent stamps to maintain pattern integrity.
After stamping, the concrete needs to cure without disturbance. We protect it from rain and extreme temperatures. Once cured, we wash off the release agent and apply sealer. The sealer protects your investment and brings out the color and texture. Most decorative concrete needs resealing every two to three years depending on traffic and weather exposure.
The entire process takes longer than standard concrete work because of the additional steps. Plan on your decorative project taking an extra day or two compared to basic concrete. The results are worth the extra time and effort. A well-executed decorative concrete project transforms ordinary outdoor space into something special.
